Love it or not it is Pumpkin Spice season! We always recommend to our juice bars to stick with this trend and incorporate a seasonal juice offering to their customers. We are based in Jupiter, Florida and while we don’t have the seasonal weather change right away, we like to notice the changing seasons with the abundance of spicy and autumnal offerings in our local shops. A healthy and delicious addition to your juice bar menu is sweet potato juice. Sweet potatoes add a texture to the juice, a creaminess that blends well with carrots, oranges, pineapple and other citrus. Sweet potatoes are a greater source of beta carotene than carrots, in addition to being rich in Vitamin, Vitamin C and Vitamin E, they are rich in phytonutrients like quercetin. The sweet potato is also a good source of iron, copper, calcium, potassium as well as folate acid. Providing around 400% of your daily Vitamin A requirements this nutrient dense vegetable will assist in healthy eyes, skin even boost the immune system.

Juicing a sweet potato

You do not have to peel your sweet potato to juice it but you should make sure they are clean. If you are juicing with our Ceado ES-500 or Ceado ES-700 you likely will not have to cut up your sweet potato, depending upon the size of the sweet potato you have chosen for juicing. If you are juicing with our CP-150 Cold Press Juicer you will need to cut the sweet potato into smaller pieces so they fit in the chute. The sweet potato is a thicker juice than you might be used to so while it isn’t necessarily pulpy it does add a bit of extra creaminess to your juice.

Sweet Potato Juice Additions

You can create a juice that is sweet or even a little spicy. Ginger and turmeric can be juiced along with the sweet potatoes if you think your customers will enjoy those flavors. You can sprinkle on top some chia seeds, cinnamon, pumpkin spice or another favorite fall spice blend.

Smoothie Base

The thicker juice also makes a wonderful base for your smoothies. Juice 2 sweet potatoes in your Ceado ES-700. Pour into your blender and add a frozen banana, some spinach, almond milk, and apple and pear for a delicious fall smoothie.

Sadly, although we expect to see this thing year round nowadays, we are saying goodbye to some of the freshest berries, mangos, melons, and greens like spinach as summer fades. It is not so bad as fall is the prime season for some of our other favorite ingredients.

We understand that you are used to putting pumpkin in basically everything (how is that latte?) as soon as Labor Day has come and Halloween approaches. But as the seasons’ change, there are more than enough fall vegetables and fruits that deserve your attention this fall — and make for some great tasting and healthy juices this season.

We know you may be in south Florida, like us, and not really seeing season per se but we have a lot of readers that definitely see a change in seasons and are lucky enough to have roadside purveyors of locally farmed produce.  So maybe we are not saying a complete goodbye to some berries, but fall is known as the prime season for some of our other favorite ingredients.

So why not add some of the best-tasting produce from fall to your juicing routine? Apples, pears, beets, Swiss chard, celery root and garlic are all in abundance and add more than just color and flavoring to our juices. We all know the value of the nutrients they bring.

The Prima Dona of the juice world: KALE. That’s right, your five-star ingredient for juicing is in its peak season, because kale turns sweeter in cold weather its popularity increases, be honest it doesn’t taste great :0). So make sure you get your fill of kale from now through to spring while it is at its absolute best.

Like us, you are probably using many of these ingredients in your juices already, but now’s the time to hit up the farmers’ market for the freshest picks of the crop, organic ones, obviously if possible. Now, you can update some of your go-to juice recipes with the season’s best ingredients. Other seasonal ingredients you can easily add to your juices this season?

Here are some great Fall Juicing Recipes

Pear and Berry

½ cup blueberries
½ cup cherries
3 pears, cored
1 apple, cored

Carrot and Beet

1 beet, peeled

4 carrots

2 apples, cored

½ lemon

¼ inch of fresh ginger, peeled

Pineapple and Citrus cleanser

1/3 cup cranberries

½ cup pineapple chunks

1 lemon

2 oranges

1 apple, cored

2 stalks celery

Fennel Root is an uncommon but versatile juicing ingredient. It can be used with just about any fresh juice recipe, adding a black licorice mild sweet flavor. It is common to Mediterranean and Southern European food recipes. Fennel is also known for its use in ancient Chinese medicine  to increase appetite, breast milk, and ease congestion.

This low-calorie vegetable is full of health benefits. It contains just 31 calories and no cholesterol  per bulb. It is rich in fiber, vitamin C, and potassium . One bulb provides 9% of the recommended potassium levels and 20% of the recommended Vitamin C levels needed daily. This can help those suffering from arthritis, high blood pressure, inflammation, and more.

In addition to juicing, this vegetable can also be used in salads, soups, or added to any recipe as a vegetable.

If you are looking to try Fennel Root, try this mix for a citrus taste with a hint of licorice:

We recommend the ES-700  or the ES-500 Ceado  Fruit and Vegetable Juicers for this recipe. For the citrus, if you decide not to peel and juice them you may use a citrus juicer like the Ceado SL98 .

When it comes to juicing, the apple is one of the more popular fruits included in many types of recipes.  Apples add the sweetness to a vegetable juice and many green drinks rely on the apple to provide a sweet balance to the earthy taste of the greens.  So which is the best type of apple to juice?  Our three favorites are listed below.
